Set up OpenPrefs in ChatGPT

OpenPrefs is in ChatGPT’s app directory. You connect it once and approve what ChatGPT can use; no token needed.

Steps

  1. Create a free OpenPrefs account at openprefs.ai/signup, or sign in if you have one.
  2. Connect it in ChatGPT. Open OpenPrefs in the ChatGPT directory and connect it.
  3. Approve it in OpenPrefs. ChatGPT sends you to OpenPrefs, where you sign in and see Connect ChatGPT? Choose the spaces it can use, and whether it can only read them or also make changes, then select Connect. A new app starts with no access, so pick at least one space.
  4. Back in ChatGPT, start a new chat. If ChatGPT doesn’t use OpenPrefs, mention it by name, such as “Check OpenPrefs for my dining budget.”

Try it

Ask ChatGPT something that needs your preferences, or tell it something worth keeping:

  • “What do my OpenPrefs say about where I like to eat?”
  • “Save to OpenPrefs that I like Italian food and prefer dinner after 6pm.”

Every read and change shows on your Activity page, and you can undo any change. To change what ChatGPT can use, or disconnect it, open the Agents page.
