Set up OpenPrefs in Muse
Muse connects to OpenPrefs with the MCP address and a token you create for it. You give Muse the address in a chat, and the token in its secure storage.
Steps
- Create a free OpenPrefs account at openprefs.ai/signup, or sign in if you have one.
- Create a token. In OpenPrefs, open Agents, select Connect an agent, then Create new token. Name it Muse, so you can tell what it did in Activity.
- Choose what it can use. Pick the spaces Muse can use, and whether it can only read them or also make changes, then create the token.
- Copy the token. It’s shown only once.
- Tell Muse to connect. Send Muse this message:Connect to the MCP server at https://mcp.openprefs.ai using a bearer token.
- Store the token when Muse asks. Muse prompts you for the token. Paste it into that prompt, which keeps it in Muse’s secure storage. Don’t paste the token into the chat, where it stays in the conversation history.
Keep the token safe
The token lets Muse use your preferences, so treat it like a password and give it only to Muse. If it gets out, open Muse on the Agents page and create a new token, which replaces the old one, or disconnect it.
Try it
Ask Muse something that needs your preferences, or tell it something worth keeping:
- “What do my OpenPrefs say about where I like to eat?”
- “Save to OpenPrefs that I like Italian food and prefer dinner after 6pm.”
Every read and change shows on your Activity page, and you can undo any change. To change what Muse can use, or disconnect it, open the Agents page.
